Ringkasan Produk

Personnel involved in activities involving a

risk of injury from gunshots, explosions,

shrapnel, stabbing and impact of projectiles

or other munitions have worn various types of

protective garments, which may be made from

either soft body armor or hard armor plate.

Hard armor must possess ability to defeat

multiple shots within a relatively small area.

The challenge in developing multi-hit hard

armor is to control the damage of the armor

structure after the impact in its proximity.

The most common approach to increase the

multi-hit capability of a hard armor is the use

of hard armor tile mosaics configuration. This

can be solved by physical separation between

the tiles in the mosaic constitutes a barrier to

the propagation of the hard material damage

that occurs during the impact. In this way the

area of the hard armor strike face damaged

by an impact is limited to the size of the tile

or maximum to a portion of two if the impact

occurs across the boundary of the individual

tile. However most hard armor is manufacture

with a rigid design (multi-curvature) to best fit

the wearer’s anthropometrics thus can create

discomfortness and fatigue if used at long

duration. This project study the design and

manufacturing process of fabricating a flexible

armor panel system using compression

moulding method using a 80 tonne hydraulic

press machine. The conceptual design of a

flexible armor tile configuration enables the

panel to be bend up to 120 degree orientation

from flat plane. The outcome of the project

can be used as a novel design pattern for

any type of hard armor panel for body armor

manufacturing industry.
