Hydrogen gas is thought to be the ideal
fuel for a world in which air pollution has
been alleviated, global warming has been
arrested, and the environment has been
protected in an economically sustainable
manner. Hydrogen and electricity could team
to provide attractive options in transportation
and power generation. A challenging problem
in establishing hydrogen gas as a source of
energy for the future is the renewable and
environmentally friendly generation of large
quantities of hydrogen gas. Thus, in this
innovation, we develop a system to produce
and collect the hydrogen gas from cultured
algae.
This research endeavoured to analyse the
issues and challenges faced by the Malaysian
Armed Forces (MAF) in force modernization.
MAF’s existing strategic plan and capability
planning approaches was assessed initially.
This was followed by validating capabilities-
based approaches employed by other modern
defence forces. Challenges and issues for
MAF in adopting a similar approach are
discussed. It was concluded that chief among
these challenges was invigorating greater
leadership in defence planning. Subsequently,
the national security and defence policies
must be aligned to provide clearer direction
for the military strategy. Other challenges
include the need to break old mind-sets vis-
à-vis service rivalry. In a resource constrained
environment, MAF’s force development has to
be addressed through a more methodological
approach in the form of CBP. Insights and
best practices from around the world have to
be adopted to avoid the debilitating pitfalls
and obstacles.
The objective of this study is to examine
the issue of leadership in flood disaster
management in Kuantan, Pahang. Data
were collected through interviews with 25
community heads, 23 village community
and 5 military personnel. The interview
data were analysed and categorized into
categories and themes. The study found
that the community do have major issues
with leadership and this lead to ineffective
disaster response and coordination. One
critical factor is the community leaders do not
have the cooperation from the community.
The community reported that the community
heads showed favouritism and cronism
during disaster response. Nevertheless,
the military personnel involved in disaster
response and recovery received some support
and cooperation from the community. The
community would rather prefer the military
personnel to lead the disaster response. This
indicated the community in Kuantan, have
the trust on military leadership and suggested
that during disaster, military should be leading
disaster response and management.
