THE SHADOW-SUIT EXOSKELETON

D-MECHD (PROTOTYPE OF

DEFENCE MECHANIC AL DRUG

DELIVERY SYSTEM)

NATURAL CONCRETE RETARDER

FROM SUGARCANE BAGASSE

This project proposes a standalone suit

codenamed the Shadow-Suit (SS) to function

as the control module concept to be applied in

any non-anthropomorphic exoskeleton design.

The SS enables the motion detection to be

performed in a separate entity, thus allowing a

wider range of wearer sizes. Result indicated

despite the difference in wearer’s anthropometry,

the exoskeleton is still capable of performing the

required task within 72% comfort level with an

approximation of 1.2 seconds lag minimization.

The very slow progress in the efficacy of the

treatment of severe diseases has suggested a

growing need for a multidisciplinary approach to

the delivery of therapeutics to targets in tissues.

From this, new ideas on controlling the efficacy

of drugs were generated. These new strategies,

often called Drug Delivery Systems (DDSs), which

are based on interdisciplinary approaches that

combine Biomedical Science and Engineering

Field. The technology involved in a drug delivery

system can be classified into three fields; releasing

technology, targeting technology, and controlled

membrane transport. The goal of controlled drug

delivery system is to directly deliver drugs to

tumor/cancer sites. Controlled drug delivery with

good targeting, precise amount and exact speed

of release are critical for drug effects. This requires

considerations of not only side effects of the drug,

but also the stability of the drug during the delivery

process. An ideal of nano capsule robot could

be develope to maneuver itself to investigate the

intestine and release the drug agents into the body

where the tumors cell are located.

In construction activity, concreting work is one of

the main tasks in process flow. Sometime, concrete

need to be mixed with chemical retarder to prolong

the setting time. According to Building Specification

2005 by the Public Work Department of Malaysia

and literature, concrete can set or hardened in 2

hours. Therefore, for the usage of supply chain and

limited pouring time especially in the area that far

from concrete plant, chemical retarder has been

put to retard the hardened process. Concrete

retarder is an admixture used to prolong concrete

setting time for the used of far concrete delivery

and more time needed in concreting work. In

this research, the retarder that being promoted

is sugarcane bagasse. The main composition of

sugarcane is the Sucrose (C12H22O11). This

content similar in chemical content for concrete

retarder. By using Vicat apparatus for a penetration

test, it can compare the time taken between normal

concrete mix and with sugarcane bagasse in term

of setting time. Few samples were prepared from

the sugarcane bagasse with 1%, 3% and 5% by

0.53 water/cement ratio of concrete mix. This

product will promote the sustainable waste material

as non chemical adding material in concrete as a

retarder. Several tests have been conducted and

the result showed that the concrete samples were

hardened between 4-5 hours without decreasing

the strength. The product that will be promoted is

sugarcane bagasse as a natural waste to be used

as a part of construction material.
