IMAGE ANALYSIS METHOD FOR
COLLECTING BREASTFEEDING
ANTHROPOMETRY DATA
CAL USING MATLAB GUI FOR
MORPHOLOGY TECHNIQUE
SIMULATION
In order to ensure comfort during breastfeeding
session, a support pillow that complies with
Malaysian women’s anthropometry is urgently
needed. Since the dedicated pillow is still not
available in market, a project to redesign the
pillow is then conducted. The project involves the
collection of breastfeeding posture data which is
usually performed through manual measurement.
Because of limitations of the manual measurement
in term of time, privacy and procedure, therefore,
this paper proposes a fast and flexible method
for breast feeding data collection using image
analysis system. The image analysis system
serves some features such as capturing images
of breastfeeding posture, loading and displaying
the images, selecting points to automatically
compute anthropometry data and then storing the
data for further use and analysis. The computed
anthropometry data are then compared with
ground truth data which was obtained from
manual measurement. A statistical analysis using
t-test was performed and showed that there is no
significant differences between both methods at
significant level
a
= 0.001.
This result indicated
that the proposed method is able to accurately
collect the anthropometry data. In addition, time
spent to collect the data using the proposed
system is shorter than using manual method.
The procedure applied is flexible and also easier
than manual one. Finally, it was concluded that
the image analysis system is able to collect the
breastfeeding anthropometry data that could
replace the manual method.
In this study, Computer Assisted Learning (CAL)
is seen through a collection of experimentation in
a course software package used to understand
the concepts of a particular subject. Digital
image processing is one of the computer science
subjects that is compulsory for computer science
students majoring in artificial intelligence in the
National Defence University of Malaysia. To
enhance Digital Image Processing subject, Matlab
Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been used
as a tool for CAL. The simulation in GUI focuses
on Morphology operation topic in Digital Image
Processing subject. Four main techniques can be
executed on the layout of the GUI which shows
the effect of the techniques when applied on a
particular image. The preliminary findings show
that this Matlab GUI proved to be an excellent tool
for CAL environment and it is user friendly due to
its convenience to the students.
